Great Lakeland 3Day - 2016 Race Director’s Report
I’m considering a career change. It’s just gone 4am on Monday morning and I’ve been dozing restlessly for only a few hours in a hazy tiredness. Even from within the van I am attempting to sleep in, I can hear the roar of wind as it stampedes around Melbreak before sweeping down to Loweswater and battering our Overnight Camp. I’m concerned for the participants, but more immediately I hear the crash of a marquee pole breaking loose. It is time to get up.
2016 Live report - Day 1
Luckily, the 2016 event didn't begin two days earlier. End of April snow is not uncommon in the Lakes, however, it's not often that we get such a blanket coating down to almost 100m above sea level! Race Director, Shane Ohly, took this video to share the latest conditions whilst out course controlling on Thursday 28th April:
GL3D Snow report
Yesterday the team were out placing checkpoints for the GL3D this weekend. The weather was very poor on the high tops and everyone placing checkpoints cut short their days due to the difficult conditions. However, the forecast for Friday through to Monday is for rising temperatures and a general improvement in the weather.
